Austin: Win Free Spirit Airlines Trip By Supporting Good Cause

Launching service to 9 destinations on Feb. 14, newest airliner teams up with ‘Kids In A New Groove’ to help kids in foster care via music.

AUSTIN, TEXAS — In its efforts toward amassing a $10,000 donation, Kids In A New Groove is challenging Austin-area residents to enter to win Spirit Airlines’ online music trip giveaway contest.

For each entry, Spirit will give $1 to Kids In a New Groove up to $10,000, officials said. The contribution will a dual impact: Giving back to the community while celebrating the city’s vibrant live music scene. Those wishing to enter can do so at www.AustinHasSpirit.com.

As an encore of sorts, two Austin contest winners will receive a trip to see live music in one of Spirit’s nine new destinations steeped in musical history, officials said. Entering to win is free, with two winners randomly selected to receive a pair of round-trip flights with Spirit Airlines, hotel and a musical appearance in a surprise destination.

Austin’s newest airline, Spirit will launch service from Austin-Bergstrom Intermational Airport on Feb. 14. The airline will offer daily, non-stop service from Austin to Baltimore/Washington; Chicago; Denver; Detroit; Fort Lauderdale; Las Vegas; Orlando; New Orleans; and Los Angeles.

The beneficiary of the contest, Kids In A New Groove, provides Texas youth in foster care with a committed, one-on-one mentoring relationship through weekly private music instruction, giving students the ability to build concrete strategies for life-long success. With Spirit’s donation, Kids In A New Groove plans on continuing their program by providing musical instruments and other vital lesson materials to their participants.

“Music is a steady drumbeat for life in Austin, said Laura Wood, the executive director of Kids In A New Groove. Music mentorship provides a consistent and nurturing environment for Central Texas youth in foster care, who are empowered to transform their futures through musics’ gift. We’re enthralled that Spirit is dedicated to supporting th youth of their newest community through music. We challenge everyone in Austin to enter.”

Added Matt Klein, Spirit Airlines’ senior vice president and chief commercial officer: “Austin will serve as a key cultural hub for Spirit’s guests. We want to ensure that one of the cities’ greatest cultural drivers, music, is alive and well for generations to come. We’re proud to support Kids In A New Grove, and we look forward to working with great non-profit organizations in Austin for many years to come.”

Spirit Airlines in November 2018 announced the launch of flight service to the aforementioned nine destinations, an expansion that marked the airline’s 70th destination to its growing network in a move expected to create 50 local jobs.

“Austin is not only a booming hub for music, cuisine and the arts, but it has quickly become an economic driver for multiple other industries,” said Mark Kopczak, Spirit Airlines’ Vice President of Network Planning, at the time of the announcement. “Texas’ capital city is a place where we believe our affordable fares and signature service on nonstop flights will resonate and bring both visitors and local residents in and out of the heart of Texas. We are offering not one or two, but nine different nonstop destinations because we know Austin is ready for Spirit.”
